Introduction to LOTI
When LOTI (levels of technology integration) was introduced to me in our ITS meeting, I thought this was a great way to encourage teachers to ease into improving their technology integration. Teachers should set their goals on just one level at a time and get comfortable before moving up. When frustration sets in, they fall back or quit. Embedded below is a fun video showing just the first 3 levels.

Wow. I like the video – that’s a clear explanation of what I want to work towards with my kids next year. I teach high school students and next year I’ll have an intelligent classroom. So I will no longer have the excuse that it’s too much trouble to take the kids to the computer lab. My kids know how to use computers and the basic tools – last year I had them doing powerpoint presentations and asked if anyone needed help and got various version of the eyeroll and “we did this in KINDERGARTEN”. The critical thinking skills are what I really want them to take away from the statistics class. Now I have to figure out what that’s going to look like once they get there.

I’d be interested to know whether your ITS class quantified LOTI by developmental age. I take 3rd graders to the computer lab once a week, so I guess I’m a low 2 but kids that age need lots of direction. I’d love to use computers more as a group center in the classroom and hope with our equipment upgrade we’ll have decent “extra” computers for student use. Those upper level thinking skills are tough for me to envision but I love the idea.
