Week 2: RSS Reflections

What did you learn?

I have solidified my understanding of what RSS feed is.  Now I just need to see it in action.  I am sure I will as the comments come in to each of our blogs.  I also am happy to learn about Start Pages.  I have wanted one for a long time so this was my excuse to get it done.

How will you use what you have learned?

First off, I will add all the Plain English YouTube sites you send us for my teachers.  They will be fun, easy to understand, and in plain English!

How did you feel about this tool?

This tool is a time saver.  Teachers will like this.  It is also an organizational tool with the start pages.

What do you not want to forget about this tool?

I don’t want to forget to use this tool.  It will be a learning curve to use this to-do-list and calendar on the start page instead of my old way.  I also don’t want to forget to automatically add a RSS feed when I find a good site.

How can this be used in the classroom or in your educational role?

In the classroom or in my role, this will allow updates to come to me or the teachers automatically.  We won’t have to take the time to see if anything new has been added.  A great reminder!

Should you use this in the classroom or your educational role?

I will definitely use this, and it will force me to at least read the topic summaries.  The start page is now my home page so it will be the first thing I see each day on my laptop Internet Explorer.  Now I will need to add it as my home page to my home and school desktops.

What questions do you still have about this tool?

Is the best way to add site links to your PageFlakes by using “anything flakes” and change the name to Links and type in the sites, or do you consider subscribing to the RSS feeds the same as adding links?
Actually, seeing the RSS feeds come in is still a question on what to expect, but I am sure as soon as the first comes in, my question will be answered.
